10 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Today, I’d like to share a few things about myself you may not already know, so dive in and let me know something interesting about yourself in the comments below!

  1. I’ve always been a little more goal driven than I probably should be. Some call it unhealthy, I just like to thank my parents for this motivated “type-A” personality of mine.
  2. Type-A huh? At the age of 12 I made my self a binder full of page protectors that held my medals and ribbons for my grades and sports memorabilia. The cover page.. “Emily’s Book of Accomplishments” I now understand why my mom just giggled and shook her head.
  3. So where has that gotten me? Well I was a bruiser in every sport I played, cried when I brought home my first B (I’ve never been able to deal with failure) and refused to lose to boys.
  4. Today, I’m an Air Force pilot. It’s a demanding profession that tests me daily and I absolutely love it. It makes me feel empowered as a women and a leader, even at the end of a 24-hour day when I don’t remember where I woke up and my mascara is cracked all over my face.
  5. I’m a girly-girl to my core. Which I hope is crystal clear from my blog.
  6. I LOVE small dogs. All dogs actually, but small dogs especially. Hate if you want, but they’re so tiny and cute I just can’t stand it. Our two little babies are Scottish-Terrier Miniature Pinscher’s and they’re ADORABLE. You would die!
  7. I Face-Time my parents pretty much everyday. I’m a momma’s girl from way back and I know I’m blessed to have two parents that love me and my brothers unconditionally.
  8. Fitness is something that is very important to me. Not just because I’ve been SUPER competitive my entire life, but also because we have some serious health conditions in our family.
  9. I love food. Who’s with me?? Truthful moment, I might carry a small tube of truffle oil around in my purse. Don’t judge. If you lived down the street from the Tavola Truffle Cafe you would too.
  10. I’m really excited about this blog. I’m just starting out, and I’m a little intimidated by all of these very talented women with their perfectly laid out blogs and flawless photos, but I’ll do my best to keep you entertained.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon. Let me know something interesting about yourself in the comments below!

    Hi Emily!

I love,Love, the blog! Wow nice to run across an awesome gal with such drive and beautiful taste!
We seem to have a lot in common. I’m a fellow pilot and I’ve been flying around these parts for the past 20 yrs. My husband and I live in edmonds, he’s retired navy and I’m a dental hygienist. I always love a good adventure it looks like you do too. I Love the great out doors, favorite hobbies, skiing, hiking, gardening flying, cooking… and oh can’t forget shopping 😊 I really enjoyed seeing the aviation clips and pics. It’s nice to see a girly girl fly, and espically that beast you fly. Lol, you could probably fit a few Cessnas like mine in the cargo belly!
I’m looking forward to following the blog and living vicariously through you.
    Girl power!!

Thanks to you and your husband for your service and keeping us all safe!

    Tail winds always,

    Annette AKA (flyingtoothfairy)

      Annette,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I love getting to know other lady aviators. Edmonds is a beautiful area! We are looking forward to summer so we can get out and explore farther north. Yes, my plane is a big ol’ girl. Sometimes I forget just how big she is! If you are ever down in the Tacoma area and would like a tour, we would be more than happy to oblige. Catching me when I’m home however, that’s the real challenge.

Thanks again for stopping bye! Wishing you nothing but clear skies and tailwinds as well,

      Emily 🙂

Wow that would be pretty awesome!, I would love that!
When you get a chance, explore Anacortes and the San Juan Islands, it’s really beautiful up there! It’s where I keep my plane. I lived in Anacortes for 6 yrs and still work up that way 3 days a week.
    Have a great week,
    Annette

  8. So where does one get a tiny tube of truffle oil? My purse needs this.

      1. Ordered! Have you been to the champagne & caviar place in Eastlake (Seattle)?? It’s amazing! I used to live across the street from it and it’s dangerous…

  9. Hi Emily!
I am so glad that I stumbled upon your blog – well technically, your instagram… but that led me here! Anyways, I love seeing examples of smart, strong, powerful, feminine, etc(!) female pilots in the USAF! I recently enlisted in the Air Guard and will be going to BMT in a couple months. I already have two years of college completed, but I’m transferring schools when I complete BMT so that I can add a major in Aerospace Sciences (emphasis on Commercial Flight). My ultimate goal is to become a pilot and fly for the Air Force or Guard – specifically flying C-17s! For months I’ve been searching for female USAF pilots on social media and somehow just now found your page. Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience and to say how cool it is to get a glimpse into what your job/life is like!! I visited Joint Base Charleston and spoke with some pilots and toured the C-17 a few months ago and so gathering information from blogs like yours and visiting different bases is getting me so excited for my future!
    Again, thank you!!
Best of wishes for your future ~ can’t wait to see more!
    Lexi:)

  10. Hi Emily!
I am so glad that I stumbled upon your blog — well, technically your instagram.. but that led me here! It’s so inspiring to see strong, smart, talented, feminine, etc(!) female pilots serving in the USAF! I recently enlisted in the Air National Guard and leave for BMT in a few months. My parents are both retired military and my dad flew F-16s in the 80’s/90’s, so it’s always something I’ve considered but just recently became passionate about and decided to commit to. I’ve already completed 2 years of college, but I’m taking a year off for BMT/tech school and then returning to college at the University of North Dakota to finish studying Cultural Anthropology & Aerospace Sciences (emphasis in Commercial Flight). My ultimate goal is to be a pilot in the Air Force or Guard, specifically flying C-17s! I’ve spent the last few months scouring the internet and social media, searching for female military pilots to get a glimpse into their lives and experiences. So, I was stoked to find your page and look through all that you’ve shared about your job!! I also visited Joint Base Charleston recently and was able to speak to some pilots and tour the C-17 — needless to say, I can’t wait to start this journey and just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences so that I can get an idea of what your life is like!
Best of wishes ~ can’t wait to see more! 🙂

Lexi! Thanks so much for visiting my page and sharing your story. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you! Life has been quite hectic the last couple months. I wish you the absolute best of luck on your journey. And I would love to hear about how it’s going when you have the time!! Stay focused girl, you got this.

      XO- Emily

  11. Hi Emily!

I am SO glad to have stumbled across your blog via Instagram! I’ve been in the USAF Reserves for almost 3 years! I am working towards my degree and hope to become an Active Duty flight nurse in the near(ish) future! I absolutely love how you share your life and experiences with your readers.

    -Hayley

Ps. It’s also good to see that there are people just as competitive as I am! I too cried over my first B lol!

    1. thetraveler says:

      Hi Hayley!

Wow that’s amazing! Wishing you all the luck on your switch over to flight nursing. How fun! Thank you so much for reading. Hope you have a wonderful New Year!
